John and I had an early morning today and when the clock radio went off I heard the tail end of an interview and the sentence: “There are so few places to receive encouragement in our culture.”
It’s been on my mind since I heard it. And it seems true as we listen to the news and overhear conversations around us.
Psalm 89: 15-17 expresses what happens as we focus on God’s name and rejoice in all He is. Listen…
“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness. For you are their glory and strength.” Psalm 89:15-17
Today, let’s agree to focus on God’s name together; to let Him be our strength and our joy and glory and let’s carry that encouragement into our world as we walk today.
Be encouraged by God… then walk in encouragement to others. Determine that those who speak with you will walk away feeling just a little better than when they arrived. Offer words of hope and life. Offer to pray. Lift up the hope we have in Jesus and let’s bring His peace into the places we go today.
Warmly,
Gail

What an insightful thought, Mel…..
“praise comes as a result of living in God’s reality and not mine.”
I love how you have expressed it here.
What a great prayer…. I will make it mine today too….
“that God’s faithfulness will ignite a flame of praise…..”
That word picture is very inspiring!
It is so good to share the journey with you!

As I read the entire passage of Psalm 89, I had asked God to illuminate the verse(s) that He would have for me on this day. As I read through to the end, my heart and mind was drawn to v.8 which says “O Lord God Almighty! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, Lord? Faithfulness is your very character.” The realization once again that God does not break His convenant with his people but that his very nature is one of kept promises is a refreshing and rejuvinating reality in a world full of broken things. I know that I can move into this day, living the reality of who He is and who He desires to be in my life and in the lives of my family. I need to remind myself that my praise comes as a result of living in God’s reality and not mine. How often don’t I allow my current reality to dictate what I’m going to say to God that day? What that really becomes is a conditional relationship. Today I will pray in a new way…a way that seems to come and go with me. Today I will pray that God’s faithfulness will ignite a flame of praise, inspite of circumstances…and we’ll see how the day goes. Blessings on you my friend!
