Hope for the Heart Part 24 - New Beginnings

Where I live, summer is short. We anticipate the season with pleasure. It’s a new beginning, a time to put out flowers; to wash the lawn chairs and fire up the barbeque.

Regardless of where we live, new beginnings come to us all the time. Some new beginnings are more welcome than others yet each is an opportunity to find new joy.

Each new day is a new beginning. Each new beginning is an opportunity. God reminds us of the fresh start we have every morning. Listen…

“The Lord’s mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is His faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22 & 23)

Whatever is happening, or not happening in your life today, choose to view your day as an opportunity for a fresh beginning.

  • Choose to embrace today. Choose to be aware of the mercies the Lord has given you today. Choose three of them to thank God for.
  • Choose to look at the faithfulness of God in the yesterdays of your life. Think of at least two times when He was there for you. Have your faith refreshed that He will again be your faithful guide in life.

Taking special notice of the freshness of God’s creation is one way to help you focus on today as a new beginning. Our lives are surrounded by plastic and glass barriers as we work in offices, commute in vehicles and live in buildings surrounded by busyness. These things can keep us insulated from the freshness of God’s creation.

  • Consciously choose to embrace the joy of God’s creation today. Find some grass and go barefoot… enjoy your lunch outside and watch the clouds overhead.
  • Take a child for a walk. Enjoy a park swing and feel the wind in your hair.
  • Open your eyes to God’s mercy and faithfulness all round you. Listen to the birds praise Him. Choose to see today as a new beginning.

prayer & reflection

Father God,
Thank You that You make all things new. Today I need to be refreshed in the newness and wonder of Your love and Your creation. Open my eyes to my blessings. Let me breathe in the wonder of life and rejoice in Your faithfulness. Help me to embrace each new beginning with my hand in Yours.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
